BPO against the Force of Nature
Just when you though that there is no stopping the outsourcing boom in India, here comes Mother Nature! Mumbai, India’s financial city capital is now flooded due to massive rain showers that were recorded to be more than 37 inches of rain. Outsourcing companies like software development and call centers are mostly based in the Mumbai district.
Last Friday, banks and exchanges in the district were closed but come Monday, most of the firms struggled to be open so that business would continue. Despite of such efforts, main resources were cut-off due to the floods. Ashish Sonal, of Hill and Associates, a Delhi-based offshore risk management company remarked that the city was not prepared for such disasters which is why major railroad transportation are cancelled and even some ATM machines are not working due to the floods. Though the physical damage is not that great, most of the employees in outsourcing firms cannot come to work.
The buildings with basement are also greatly affected by floods causing a power failure which results to firms being unable to resume business. Despite of these inconveniences, firms are struggling to make it work and make everything run smoothly.
