Australia: Looking for alternative locations, skills

For some Australian outsourcers, India is not the only choice.

Because legal hurdles and cultural differences, some companies from Down Under are now looking out for alternative destinations like Vietnam, Myanmar and the Philippines, according to a report by Ambition Technology Market Trends and Reports.

According to the report, one in six Australian organizations have undertaken offshoring projects. But at the same time, it noted that a number of companies were dissatisfied with some of the projects like software development and are, therefore, taking it back and doing it in-house.

But that doesn't mean Australia is outsourcing less. On the other hand, the report predicted strong demand for other IT functions like maintaining customer relationship management [CRM] solutions, which have replaced the trend towards enterprise resource planning [ERP} software.

It was also reported that Australian companies pay a premium for critical IT skills, particularly senior architects, network architects, wireless, security, data management and business intelligence.
