Outsourcing down under
While many of its companies outsource offshore, Australia is also making a
bid as a potential outsoucing destination.
A recent survey shows that almost one in six Australian organisations have
outsourced IT projects offshore or are at least planning to do so.
Among 100 local IT companies, the survey showed 12 percent have already
completed offshore projects with another five percent planning to
outsource at least one this year
Software development and design are the most popular projects for
Australian organisations outsourcing offshore. Like everybody else cost
reduction is the main reason along with superior quality.
But judging by the respondents' comments, they'll rather outsource some of
the workload in Australia.
Most survey respondents want governments to provide tax and development
incentives to encourage the local industry to keep jobs in Australia.
A focus on the quality and value of the local IT industry was also cited
to overcome the aggressive marketing and low costs of emerging rivals in
Asia and Eastern Europe.
