Destination: NEW ZEALAND

While it seems a bit late in the market, New Zealand is making a bid as one among many destinations for offshore outsourcing.

Under the banner Outsource2NewZealand, some 20 software and services companies joined a recent Gartner event in London attended by at least 300 European outsourcers.

It’s a great first step in terms of marketing. According to IDC, outsourcing deals signed in Europe last year amounted to more than 40 billion dollars more than double the previous year. More than half these big-time deals came from the UK.

Gartner conducted an assessment of the New Zealand outsourcing landscape. While New Zealand’s advantage in its strong cultural affinity with the UK, Gartner says the Kiwis need to have permanent UK presence and government commitment to push outsourcing.

IDC also had things to say about New Zealand. IDC describes New Zealand as a potential offshore outsourcing destination with high value, but limited domestic demand and possible access issues.

Rather than attempt to compete with powerhouse India on price and scale, Outsource2NewZealand is promoting itself as a clearing house for organizations in the market for “highly innovative or leading edge” development projects.

While the outsourcing world is yet to fully understand what New Zealand can bring to the table, they can browse thru a couple of sites like marketnewzealand.com to get some tidbits.
