BPO has Evolved into Higher-Value Services

Over the years, BPO has evolved into something more than call centers or software engineers rewriting code and other routine data encoding tasks.

A recent CNET article enumerated a number of companies from Bermuda to Bangalore engaged in higher-end services for their respective clients.

One company provides “patent writing” services, wherein its people analyze inventions coming from countries like Russia and China. The purpose is to evaluate their commercial prospects by which the client can think of ways how to sell the product.

Another company used to do typical BPO services like call centers. The company, however, has evolved and now packages “solutions” along with its previous services like market research categorized into various industry sectors.

A common factor present in these new BPO services is that they provide higher value to the client. India, for example, has a huge number of qualified workers, most of them degree holders in finance and engineering.

Whereas companies previously outsource routine yet necessary tasks, outsourcers today are willing to try services that help them structure their business strategies.
